A patient in the 35th week of pregnancy and with symptoms of intracranial haemorrhage was admitted to the University Hospital No. 2. Medical examinations revealed a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. In order to save both the mother and her unborn child, doctors decided to simultaneously perform two surgical procedures – caesarean section and brain aneurysm clipping. In the operating room of the Department of Neurosurgery, a team of neurosurgeons opened the patient’s skull to close the aneurysm and, at the same time, a team of obstetricians and gynaecologists managed the delivery by C-section.

Both procedures were successful. The mother and the baby are both feeling well. Little Antoni is the first baby in the University Hospital No. 2 who was born in the Department of Neurosurgery.

The team of neurosurgeons was led by dr Andrzej Swincow, head of the Department of Neurosurgery and Neurotraumatology, and the team of obstetricians – by prof. dr hab. Marek Grabiec, head of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Oncology.
