Every year, the Polish Society of Surgical Oncology [Polskie Towarzystwo Chirurgii Onkologicznej – PTCHO] awards only one distinguished clinician or scientist selected from among all members of the Society. This year’s winner, dr Maciej Nowacki, conducts extensive research under the academic supervision of prof. dr hab. n. med. Wojciech Zegarski – head of the Department. He is responsible for implementing, together with prof. Zegarski, the first Pressurized Intraperitoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy (PIPAC) treatment program in this part of Europe, conducting research on and promoting the implementation of Hyperthermic Intra-Peritoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) in Poland, as well as carrying out research on metastatic processes, peritoneal carcinomatosis and innovative surgical techniques.
