We are proud to inform that prof. dr hab. Jan Styczyński from the Department of Paediatrics, Haematology and Oncology at Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz has been appointed the chair of the Infectious Diseases Working Party (IDWP) of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) for the term 2016-2020 and, consequently, a member of the management board of the Society.

Jan Styczyński from the Department of Paediatrics, Haematology and Oncology at Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz has been appointed the chair of the Infectious Diseases Working Party (IDWP) of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) for the term 2016-2020 and, consequently, a member of the management board of the Society. Prof. Styczyński has previously served as IDWP Secretary for two terms in the years 2010-2016.

The elections were held in Valencia, Spain, on 5 April 2016, during the 42nd annual meeting of EBMT.

The European Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation is the largest organisation worldwide engaged in scientific, research and regulatory activity centred on the transplantation of stem cells from bone marrow, peripheral blood and cord blood. The Society is a confederation of 568 transplant centres from 55 countries and brings together over 4700 active members. The current EBMT President is Mohamad Mohty from Paris.

Prof. Styczyński, the current chair of the Infectious Complications Working Group of the Polish Society for Paediatric Haematology and Oncology, is the first expert in the over 30-year history of Polish blood and marrow transplantation to be elected to the management board of such an international society.
