Piotr Adamski, research and teaching assistant at the Department of Cardiology and Internal Diseases of the Faculty of Medicine at NCU Collegium Medicum, received the Scientific Award for young researchers in a competition organised by the Gdańsk Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN).

The prestigious Scientific Award for young researchers is awarded annually to only one scholar in each of the five categories: humanities and social sciences, biological and agricultural sciences, exact and earth sciences, technical sciences, and medical sciences.

In the category of medical sciences, the top award was presented to dr Piotr Adamski from our Department of Cardiology and Internal Diseases of the Faculty of Medicine for his publication entitled: „Morphine delays and attenuates ticagrelor exposure and action in patients with myocardial infarction: the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled IMPRESSION trial”. The paper presents the world’s first randomised clinical trial which demonstrated the negative effect of morphine on ticagrelor exposure and on its antithrombotic activity in patients with acute myocardial infarction – one the leading causes of death in industrialised countries. The paper was published in the European Heart Journal (Impact Factor 19.651), one of the world-leading cardiology journals published by the European Society of Cardiology. Dr Adamski is a co-first author of the paper together with prof. dr hab. Jacek Kubica, the Vice-Rector for Research at the Nicolaus Copernicus University.
