The ceremony of awarding the certificates of election to the new authorities of the Nicolaus Copernicus University was held on 14 June 2016 in Collegium Maximum in Toruń. The new rector, vice-rectors, deans and vice-deans received their certificates from the Head of the NCU Election Commission, prof. dr hab. Andrzej Rakoczy. The term of office of the new authorities will begin on 1 September 2016.

On 10 March 2016, Prof. dr hab. Andrzej Tretyn was elected as Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus University for the term 2016-2020. This is his second term in this position.
The elections for Vice-Rectors of the Nicolaus Copernicus University for the term 2016-2020 were held on 23 March 2016 in Toruń. The following persons were elected:

- Vice-Rector for Scientific Research – prof. dr hab. Jacek Kubica
- Vice-Rector for Economy and Development – prof. dr hab. Danuta Dziawgo

- Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Staff Management – prof. dr hab. Andrzej Sokala
