This means that this year’s May Break (the so-called Majówka) will take place from 29 April (Saturday) until 3 May (Wednesday). The break is due to two important public holidays celebrated in Poland in that period: 1 May is the Labour Day (Święto Pracy), during which in some major cities there are occasional marches promoting workers’ rights, and 3 May is the Constitution Day (Święto Konstytucji 3 Maja), which is celebrated with military parades, family picnics and concerts.
Additionally, on 2 May the Polish celebrate the Flag Day – it is not a public holiday, but many institutions, such as our university, are closed on that day.
