The 24th Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy – WOŚP) will take place on 10th January 2015 (Sunday). The WOŚP Finale is a nationwide one-day public money collection event held every year in order to raise funds for equipment donated to Polish hospitals. The theme of this year’s Finale is: “Buying medical equipment for paediatric wards and providing decent medical care for seniors”.

The event is organised by the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Foundation – a public benefit organisation whose main aim is to actively support the medical and health protection sector through implementing a number of nationwide medical programs and organising money collections. In the 23 years of its functioning, the WOŚP Foundation has purchased almost 110 million USD worth of medical equipment.

You can find out more about the WOŚP Foundation and the Grand Finale here.

On the day of the Grand Finale, over a hundred thousand volunteers will take to the streets of Polish cities and towns, carrying characteristic collection cans and red heart-shaped stickers given in return for a donation. Money will also be raised through auctions, bidding or direct transfers to WOŚP accounts. As always, the Finale will be accompanied by numerous special events which will begin on the Saturday before the big day.

Many events in Bydgoszcz are being organised on that occasion, including concerts in the Old Market Square (Stary Rynek) and various attractions offered all over the city (detailed information available in Polish). Medical students of the Bydgoszcz Branch of IFMSA-Poland are also going to support WOŚP aim by organising a series of events in the Bydgoszcz Municipal Cultural Centre (Miejskie Centrum Kultury), starting at 1 p.m. on the day of the Grand Finale. You will be able to measure your sugar level and blood pressure, find out more about the consequences of smoking or the symptoms of anorexia and bulimia, and even register as a potential bone marrow donor.

Join millions of Poles and support the noble cause!
