SOLIDARITY WITH UKRAINE
6th April 2017

On 4 April 2017, a group of guests from Ireland visited our university. The meeting provided us with an excellent opportunity to promote English-taught programmes offered by NCU Collegium Medicum in the Irish media and among Irish secondary school students.

Irish guests at Collegium Medicum, 4.04.2017On 4 April 2017, a group of guests from Ireland visited our university – journalists: Eana O’Calloai from The Irish Times and Tom Farrell from Career News, and guidance counsellors: Dr Liam Harkin, Conor Hayes, and Pauline Cudmore. The meeting provided us with an excellent opportunity to promote English-taught programmes offered by NCU Collegium Medicum in the Irish media and among Irish secondary school students.

The visit started off with a meeting with prof. Arkadiusz Jawień, Director of the Centre for Medical Education in English at NCU Collegium Medicum, after which the guests, accompanied by employees of the Centre and Irish students, went to see Student’s House No. 3, our most modern dormitory. Their next stop was the Department of Dermatology, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Immunodermatology, as well as the Department of Anatomy. There, prof. Michał Szpinda, vice-dean of the Faculty of Medicine, showed the visitors around lecture rooms, dissecting rooms and student laboratories, and told them a bit about teaching anatomy to English-speaking students. We are pleased to say that the guests were very impressed with the quality of student accommodation, the modern teaching environment of the Department of Dermatology, and the state-of-the-art equipment of the Department of Anatomy.

The visit concluded with a meeting with prof. Grażyna Odrowąż-Sypniewska – the Vice-Rector for Collegium Medicum, prof. Arkadiusz Jawień and prof. Michał Szpinda, during which the guests and the hosts discussed important issues related to English-taught programmes, exchanged information on differences between the Irish and Polish education systems, and shared experiences concerning the stay of Irish students in Poland.

The visit was co-organised by Medical Poland – a company represented by Mr Adam Krawczyk who acts as our recruitment agent in Ireland and the UK.
