The official opening ceremony of the academic year 2018/2019 was held on 2 October 2018 in the Assembly Hall [Aula] of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.
Apart from traditional elements of the inauguration ceremony, i.e. a speech delivered by the Rector, matriculation of first-year student representatives, or presentation of awards and distinctions, one of the main highlights of this event was awarding the Convallaria Copernicana Distinction of the Nicolaus Copernicus University to prof. dr hab. Daniel Simson from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science.
In accordance with tradition, the NCU Senate laid flowers at the monument of Nicolaus Copernicus in Toruń on the day of the event. A special intention mass for the new academic year will be held on 11 October at 7:00 pm in the Academic Church of the Holy Spirit in Toruń (24 Piekary Street).
