26th June 2015 marked a momentous event in the history of NCU Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz. The first graduates of the 6-year MD Program in English received their higher education diplomas and hearty rounds of applause during their graduation ceremony, held in accordance with the Polish tradition.

Eleven doctors, now former students, received words of congratulations and appraisal from prof. dr hab. Jan Styczyński – Vice-Rector for Collegium Medicum, prof. dr hab. Jacek Kubica – Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and prof. dr hab. Arkadiusz Jawień – Director of the Centre for Medical Education in English at Collegium Medicum. In their cordial farewell speeches, the authorities referred to the graduates as their new colleagues and pioneers who have blazed the trail for future candidates from all parts of the world invited to study at Collegium Medicum. Kind and appreciative words were also spoken by a special guest, Thor Kristian Hanisch, a representative of Agder Academy in Norway.

After a touching and inspiring speech delivered by Elin Walker, the graduates’ representative and initiator of the Bydgoszcz branch of the Association of Norwegian Students Abroad, graduation diplomas and distinction awards were given to the proud, newly qualified doctors, enabling them to take a crucial step on their path to professional career.

As is the custom in Poland, the ceremony concluded with the singing of Gaude, Mater Polonia (Rejoice, oh Mother Poland), inviting our first international graduates to regard Poland as their second home, which it will always be.
