The NCU Collegium Medicum Choir took part in the 4th Freamunde International Choir Competition 2016 held between 14-21 July in two Portuguese cities – Freamunde and Paços de Ferreira. The festival was attended by eleven choirs, including eight ensembles from Portugal and three from Poland.
The Collegium Medicum Choir – conducted by prof. Janusz Stanecki and his assistant, mgr Łukasz Hermanowicz – gave excellent performances and won third places in two categories: sacred music and folk music, thus qualifying for the finals. The top prize eventually went to the choir of the Cultural Centre in Poznań.
Apart from the three contest performances, the group gave several extra concerts during the Festival, presenting mostly the repertoire of Polish composers. The Choir had the great honour of performing during a liturgy celebrated in the Basilica of the Holy Trinity in the Sanctuary of Fátima, for which they were applauded by hundreds of pilgrims from all parts of the world. The concerts given in Portugal were undoubtedly another important achievement added to the portfolio of the Collegium Medicum Choir.
