Centre for Medical SimulationWe are pleased to inform you that the Centre for Medical Simulation at NCU Collegium Medicum has officially been opened.

The Centre for Medical Simulation has been established with the aim of improving the quality and effectiveness of medical teaching provided to Collegium Medicum students, which is in accord with the University’s strategy for development as a modern teaching centre. The Centre is intended mainly for the students of medicine, nursing and midwifery. The facility is designed to help enrich the process of medical teaching through simulation-based courses, extracurricular classes, Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) sessions, teaching staff training, as well as courses and internships for medical simulation instructors.

Centre for Medical SimulationStudents and instructors can improve their skills in medical simulation rooms equipped with state-of-the-art high-fidelity simulators, including an intensive care room, an emergency department, a labour room, an operating suite, an ambulance with simulated environment, and a nursing care room. Additionally, the Centre offers low-fidelity simulation for training basic technical, surgical and laboratory skills using various simulators, models, and phantoms. Simulated medical environment provides students with access to rare and uncommon clinical cases and allows them to practice their skills as often as necessary in order to avoid medical malpractice and optimise clinical treatment results.

Apart from training medical skills, students are also provided with a unique opportunity to practice their interpersonal competencies necessary for establishing and maintaining good relations with patients, their families, as well as other health professionals. Such skills can be trained in standardised and virtual patient rooms, where students can practice decision making, differential diagnosis or treatment planning.Centre for Medical Simulation

A group of rooms has been specially adapted for the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). The rooms are fully monitored, offering the possibility to record and replay students’ examination sessions.

Establishing of the Centre was made possible largely thanks to funding obtained for the project entitled “Development of medical teaching through instructional simulation at the Nicolaus Copernicus University Collegium Medicum”. The project was launched as part of the Operational Programme Knowledge Education Development 2014 – 2020, co-financed from the European Social Fund.
