On 3 January 2016, rectors of higher education institutions in Bydgoszcz met to discuss the principles of cooperation with regard to establishing the Academic Centre for Stress Management whose aim will be to fight stress in the academic community.

grafika ilustracyjnaIt is common knowledge that being a higher education student entails a lot of hard work and mental effort, which can sometimes lead to the feelings of stress and general anxiety. With this in mind, authorities of Bydgoszcz universities deemed it necessary to provide direct support to those students who find it difficult to cope with stress related to both academic and everyday experiences.

On 3 January 2016, rectors of higher education institutions in Bydgoszcz met to discuss the principles of their cooperation with regard to the fight against stress in the academic community. An agreement was concluded between the following authorities:

  • Prof. dr hab. Jacek Woźny – Rector of the Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz,
  • Prof. dr hab. inż. Tomasz Topoliński – Rector of the University of Science and Technology in Bydgoszcz,
  • Prof. zw. Jerzy Kaszuba – Rector of the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz,
  • Prof. dr hab. Grażyna Odrowąż-Sypniewska – Vice-Rector for NCU Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz,with the participation of:
  • Prof. dr hab. Jacek Kubica – Vice-Rector for Research at NCU in Toruń,
  • Prof. dr hab. Aleksander Araszkiewicz – Head of the Department of Psychiatry of NCU Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz.

A decision was made to establish the Academic Centre for Stress Management with the aim of providing students with stress counselling, particularly with regard to preventing the negative effects of stress, depressive disorders, and even suicide attempts. Organisation of the Centre will be managed by Prof. Aleksander Araszkiewicz.
