A Chance for NepalA group of Collegium Medicum students landed safe and sound in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The arrival of the volunteers marked the beginning of their charity project called ‘A Chance for Nepal’, which is aimed to provide direct medical and humanitarian aid to communities affected by shortage of essential goods due to the earthquake in 2015. The mission is scheduled to run until 15 September 2016.

‘A Chance for Nepal’ aims to deliver basic medical equipment, drugs and accessories to a destroyed health post in the village of Piskar, Sindhupalchowk district, and covers medical assistance and medical education to be provided on site. The project also involves medical and health-promoting education in the scope of first aid, HIV/AIDS prevention, most common diseases, reproductive health and suchlike, for children attending schools in Kathmandu.

The programme of the project is based on results of field research conducted in August and September 2015 by Karol Cadelski – the project coordinator and a student of the 5th year of Medicine – who returned from his first visit with many wonderful and moving photographs of the Nepali people. A unique photography exhibition entitled „The Nepalis” was hosted by Collegium Medicum as a tribute to the victims of the earthquake in Nepal in 2015.

Asked about their mission, the volunteers say that “A Chance for Nepal is motivated by a desire to deliver aid by a group of zealous students of medicine who believe that together they can do something good”.
