The Nicolaus Copernicus University will be celebrating its University Day on 19 February 2017 – the 554. birth anniversary of its patron, Nicolaus Copernicus (born 19 February 1473). As each year, a special ceremony will be held as a tribute to the man who “stopped the Sun and moved the Earth”.

University Day 2017The Nicolaus Copernicus University will be celebrating its University Day on 19 February 2017 – the 554. birth anniversary of its patron, Nicolaus Copernicus (born 19 February 1473). As each year, a special ceremony will be held as a tribute to the man who “stopped the Sun and moved the Earth”.

The ceremony will be preceded by a University Concert of the Toruń Symphony Orchestra, the Military Orchestra and the NCU Academic Choir, accompanied by notable soloists and conductors. The concert will be held on 18 February (Saturday) at 6 pm in the NCU Main Hall (Toruń, 11 Gagarina Street).

On 19 February (Sunday), the celebrations will traditionally begin with laying flowers at the monument of Nicolaus Copernicus in Toruń (at 10.15 am). The main official event will be held at 11 am in the NCU Main Hall (Toruń, 11 Gagarina Street).

During the University Day celebrations, 111 newly-graduated doctors and 59 habilitated doctors will receive their diplomas. New Honorary Professors and Ambassadors of the Nicolaus Copernicus University will also be appointed during the event.
