The 19th International Congress of the Polish Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care The 19th International Congress of the Polish Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care was held in Bydgoszcz between 13-16 September 2017.

The conference assembled over 1,500 participants and a prestigious body of speakers, including 40 lecturers from all over the world – Europe, the USA, Canada, Israel, Japan, or Korea. The numbers testify to the rank of the event which served as a perfect opportunity to share knowledge and experience with acknowledged experts. The meeting was held under the auspices of the Marshal of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, the President of Bydgoszcz, authorities of the Nicolaus Copernicus University and NCU Collegium Medicum, as well as the management of the Antoni Jurasz University Hospital No. 2 in Bydgoszcz, whose Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care co-organised the event. Official patronage was taken by the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists and the European Society of Anaesthesiology.

The lectures and workshops covered various issues related to everyday practice of anaesthesiology, such as extracorporeal treatment in intensive care, renal replacement therapy, extracorporeal liver support, diagnosis and management of sepsis, intensive care of patients with multiple organ trauma, cardiovascular dynamics monitoring, anaesthetizing patients at high risk of developing complications, acute pain management, reanimation and resuscitation, microbiology and infections, and many more. The Congress has undoubtedly contributed to an even more effective diagnostic and therapeutic management of both intensive care patients in critical condition and those anaesthetized before elective surgical procedures, as well as to a better integration of the community of anaesthesiologists worldwide.
